Who We Help

Specialized Help for the Issues Other Programs Avoid

If your son is struggling with problematic sexual behaviors and the trauma beneath them, you are in the right place, and you are not alone. STAR Guides was built specifically for these issues, including teens other programs couldn’t reach.

The Care of a Leading Residential Program — in the Wilderness

STAR Guides combines CSAT-informed, sex-specific treatment with a fully unplugged Southern Utah wilderness setting that removes the technology and triggers driving the behavior — so the clinical work goes deeper and the change lasts longer.

Pornography & Cyber-Sexual Addiction

For many teen boys, compulsive pornography use begins early and quietly, then grows into a cycle that feels impossible to break. Constant access, secrecy, and the way screens shape a developing brain can turn curiosity into cyber-sexual addiction, sexting, and online hook-ups. At STAR Guides, the fully unplugged wilderness setting removes device access entirely, interrupting the compulsive loop while CSAT-informed therapists help your son understand the emotions and experiences driving it and build healthier patterns that hold once he comes home.

Compulsive Sexual Behavior & Hypersexuality

When sexual thoughts and behaviors start to feel out of a teen's control (compulsive masturbation, reckless or risky sexual behavior, promiscuity, voyeurism, or fixations and fetishes) it is usually a sign of deeper emotional dysregulation or unresolved trauma, not simply acting out. STAR Guides treats hypersexuality and compulsive sexual behavior directly, with twice-weekly individual therapy, daily group work, and a structured program that builds accountability, emotional regulation, and awareness of the triggers underneath the behavior.

Sex Addiction

Sexual addiction in adolescents looks like compulsive sexual behavior that continues despite real consequences to relationships, school, safety, and self-worth. Our clinical program is led by a CSAT-credentialed clinical director and grounded in the same sex-specific treatment approach used by leading residential programs, delivered in a wilderness setting that strips away the access and triggers feeding the addiction while its underlying drivers are addressed.

Sibling & Sexual Abuse

Few situations feel more overwhelming for a family than sexual abuse involving their own children, whether a teen has been harmed, has harmed a sibling, or both. These are painful, frightening circumstances that call for specialized, non-shaming care. STAR Guides provides structured assessment (including psychosexual evaluation when appropriate), safety planning, trauma treatment, and careful family work, creating a safe environment where your son can take accountability, heal, and begin to rebuild trust.

Sexual, Developmental & Attachment Trauma

Beneath most problematic sexual behavior is unresolved trauma. Sexual trauma, early-childhood and developmental trauma, disrupted attachment, adoption-related wounds, and PTSD often drive the behaviors families see on the surface. STAR Guides is trauma-informed at its core: rather than only managing behavior, our therapists work to reach and resolve the underlying trauma, using the calm, focused wilderness environment to make that deeper work possible.

Co-occurring Concerns

Problematic sexual behavior rarely travels alone. Many students also struggle with anxiety, depression, OCD, oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), and other emotional and behavioral challenges. STAR Guides treats the whole young person, integrating care for these co-occurring concerns into the treatment plan so progress in one area supports progress in the others.
