A Highly Specialized Treatment Program

STAR Guides Treatment Centers is a specialized treatment program for adolescent males ages 13–17 struggling with compulsive sexual behaviors, problematic technology use, and related trauma.

Unlike programs that treat a broad range of behavioral or substance-related issues, STAR Guides focuses specifically on the diagnostic assessment and treatment of compulsive sexual and relational behavior issues in adolescent males. Our program provides intensive therapeutic support for teens and active guidance for parents throughout the treatment process. This focused approach allows our clinical team to address underlying trauma, attachment challenges, and emotional regulation issues that often drive problematic sexual behaviors in adolescents.

How the STAR Guides Program Works

STAR Guides follows a structured, clinically supervised wilderness treatment model designed specifically for adolescent males ages 13–17 with problematic sexual behaviors and related trauma.

1. Comprehensive Assessment & Intake

Each participant begins with a thorough diagnostic assessment conducted by licensed clinicians to evaluate compulsive sexual behaviors, trauma history, emotional functioning, and family dynamics.

2. Individualized Treatment Planning

Based on assessment findings, the clinical team develops a personalized treatment plan focused on accountability, emotional regulation, trauma resolution, and healthy relational development.

3. Wilderness-Based Therapeutic Programming

Participants engage in a wilderness-based therapeutic environment that removes access to technology and external distractions. This setting promotes self-reflection, responsibility, and meaningful behavioral change while supporting therapeutic engagement.

4. Ongoing Clinical Oversight & Therapy

Licensed therapists provide continuous clinical oversight throughout the program. Treatment is trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate, and focused on addressing the underlying drivers of compulsive sexual behavior.

5. Family Involvement & Parent Support

Parents and caregivers are actively involved through structured communication, coaching, and guidance. Family participation is essential to long-term success and sustainable change.

6. Transition Planning & Continued Support

As treatment progresses, STAR Guides supports families in planning next steps, including reintegration, continued therapy, and ongoing accountability strategies.

Patient Outcomes & Key Findings

STAR Guides monitors treatment outcomes to evaluate clinical effectiveness and support continuous quality improvement. Outcomes are assessed using clinically relevant measures, therapist observations, and parent-reported feedback collected throughout treatment and follow-up.

As part of ongoing program evaluation, STAR Guides tracks changes in mental health distress using standardized outcome measures. On this instrument, lower scores indicate reduced levels of distress, with a decrease of 13 points considered clinically meaningful.

Program-level outcome data indicates that parents report an average score of approximately 98 at intake and an average score of approximately 24 at program completion. Follow-up data shows scores rising into the low 50s over time and remaining relatively stable throughout the following year, suggesting sustained improvements beyond program completion.

These findings are used internally to inform treatment planning and program development and are not intended to predict individual outcomes.

OUR SPECIALTY

Unlike other teen and young adult programs that treat a broad range of substance and behavior issues in traditional settings, STAR Guides Treatment Centers provides a specialized “unplugged” environment to reset and re-balance the physical, mental, and spiritual health of youth.  Because of the very personal nature of their issues, under the guidance of highly trained therapists and professionals, we provide a setting where youth can feel safe and supported when working through sensitive pornography or sexual issues along with trauma, free of fear, embarrassment, or shame.
